Fraction Line Plot Resources 5.MD.2

I was looking for resources for the standard 5.MD.2 on using line plots with fractions and I found some greate stuff. First up is a game from Mr. Nussbaum's site to practice finding fractions on a line plot. This is a little different than the standard but would give the kids experience with fractions. Mr. Nussbaum has an amazing collection of classroom games and activites that are worth exploring. 

Mr. Maffesoli's Math site has excellent worksheets to use and a video explaining the concept. Be sure to check out his other extensive resources for Common Core at grade levels K - 5. 

Division Week!

This week we will be working on division for our interventions.  Woot! Here are some games to get you going.

Arrgh! - Collect items to be a pirate to practice your divison facts skills. After that fun game check out more division games from Fun 4 the Brain. 

Also, there is the main division page for Multiplicaton and Division games on Metzilla. Challenge yourself to the higher level games.  

Maths Mansion has a video about division called Dividing We Stand.  This will need a Discovery Education login. My students just talk to me about the login. 

April 3 - 5 Classroom Activities

This week we are continuing work on adding fractions. Check out this online practice at Math Playground. Here is a game about adding fractions called Fruit Shoot Action Addition. 

I found some pictures of Bushnell's submarine too. 

Lastly I am trying out this game in the blog post.

5th Grade Student Work for February 19 - 21

I hope you all are enjoying your four day weekend. Just a reminder that I will be out on Friday for a training so you will have a substitute.

We will be working on comparing fractions and many of the same items as last week so please check out the previous blog post for links.

I will try to feature a website each week. Since we are studying fractions, here is a game about equivalent fractions called Triplets.

5th Grade Student Work for February 11 - 15

I'm going to be using this blog now to communicate with my students what I want them to do online instead of on posts about education topics. : )

This week we will be reading the Trophies story "The Case of the Flying Saucer People" so please work on the activities. I will give you some time in class and you can work on them at home. I will be adding a quiz to Edmodo about what you have learned closer to the end of the week.

We will be working more on fractions, percents, and decimals in math. If you want extra practice please work on the activites on Metzila. On Friday we all will be taking a two minute all facts assessment. Remember to practice those math facts at home. Flash cards work great.  There are also great sites like Math Magician too. 

Also, we will be finish up note taking about the Titanic and will begin making those notes into a paper.

Just a reminder there will be no school on February 18 and 19.
